我個人相信計算能力應該是一個國家國力的一部分。
以往的高級計算能力來自於超級電腦，硬體上的資源限制造成只有少數國家有能力製造。
但是，現代的計算能力將取決於軟體能力，而不再受限於硬體了！
也就是有好的人才，就能擁有！
這必須歸功於 Grid computing, Cloud computing 的興起。
我們可以發現這種技術被掌握在一些大型網路公司，譬如 Amazon, Facebook, Google，而不似以往的先進計算機技術被掌握在國家手裡。
那麼其他國家呢？
當年有日本也擁有製造超級電腦的技術。
現在有哪個美國以外的國家，能自己擁有 Cloud computing technology？
台灣的高速電腦中心有嗎？
我真心認為台灣應該要擁有自己的 Cloud technology。
並能藉以提昇全國的軟體能力。
只是簡單紀錄我一時的心得，想知道台灣的相關現況，可以參考高速電腦中心的資料。

The vendors of cloud computation currently fall into 4 major categories - applications, platform, infrastructures, and enablers. And you are right here, the US has been playing the key role at platform and infra. However, Taiwan still have, or should have, good insertion point for applications. There are a lot of new startup companies in Silicon Valley to do the SaaS.
By the way, Cisco also made a very aggressive move to Cloud computation on virtulization data center.
